Interactive Theatre International is a Professional Theatre Company based in Brisbane Australia, and founded in 1997. The company produces and promotes quality shows/entertainment that performs nationally and internationally.
By way of definition ... Interactive Theatre as a concept removes the boundaries normally associated with theatrical performance: the fourth wall is removed (performers are not limited to the traditional stage of mainhouse theatre); and whilst some scripting is involved, a great deal of the performance is improvised, bouncing off ideas offered by audience members. Immersion Theatre conceptually transports attendees from being spectators who watch a production passively, to actually experiencing what is happening around them. High quality immersive theatre elicits the response: "it was just like being there ..." They forget it isn't real, and truly become involved, sometimes to the point of voluntarily participating. Site Specific Theatre is theatre that needs to occur in a specific space - eg 'Faulty Towers the Dining Experience' needs to be performed in a fully functional restaurant.
A brief history ... Interactive Theatre International (formerly Interactive Theatre Australia) was born from the desire of one individual to find herself performance work. After moving to Brisbane from her native New Zealand, Alison Pollard met Andy Foreman in early 1997, and 'Faulty Towers the Dining Experience' was born.
