Marketing Volunteers – Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne


Description of the role
This is the perfect opportunity for 2-4 people from each city to join our team of staff as marketing volunteers. The role will give you real hands-on experience of day-to-day theatre marketing, working for three internationally acclaimed 5-star shows. Although there is no financial payment for your hours spent with us, we offer you crucial experience in contributing to marketing campaigns, opportunities to coordinate and manage print distribution, opportunities to play a vital part in our social media campaigns, opportunities to build partnerships with other venues and businesses, as well as opportunities to see the shows for free. Completing your volunteer placement with us will give you tangible work experience to add to your CV, practical theatre experience, and a summer to remember.

As a member of the marketing department, you will be a key player in increasing ticket sales for our shows.

Description about Imagination Workshop Imagination Workshop is a theatre production company with a real passion for education. We use theatre to enable people to understand the world differently and are dedicated to raising the profile of theatre so that it becomes an everyday choice of entertainment for everybody.

Job description
In advance of the tour (before the shows start)
Approximately 5-8 hours per week

  • To work with the Head of Marketing (based in the UK) to feed into the social media strategy for Pip Utton’s Australia tour
  • To work with the Head of Marketing to feed into the marketing strategy, with particular emphasis on print management and distribution for Pip Utton’s Australia tour
  • To work with the Head of Marketing to feed into the marketing strategy regarding partnership opportunities with external venues and organisations
  • To deliver a series of social media outcomes as agreed with the Head of Marketing
  • To establish a series of partnerships with external venues and organisations
During the shows
Approximately 10-12 hours per week
  • To create dynamic and engaging content for social media sites including blogs, image creation, micro blogging, daily reporting, interviewing actors, seeing shows, vox pops with audience members etc
  • To take responsibility for print distribution (flyering) on a daily basis, both street flyering, and distribution to venues
Training opportunities
  • To understand a marketing campaign plan
  • To create a social media strategy
  • To deliver a social media strategy
  • To learn how to represent an organisation to other organisations
  • To gain ground level experience on distribution

Person specification
  • To have an interest in drama, theatre and performance
  • To be keen to start a career within theatre or event management
  • To be a good self-starter and have a discipline for managing your own work
  • To be able to demonstrate your work to your line manager
  • To be enthusiastic about your work, even at repeat tasks
  • To be confident in approaching people in the street to promote our show
  • To be able to think creatively on social media
